Couric To Yahoo, WHY?

Katie Couric has officially announced that she will be working at Yahoo. Are you surprised? I am and I am not surprised at the same time.

You see, it doesn't surprise me because, the way things are now, hiring Couric to read news on Yahoo is chic. She has name recognition. The name recognition hasn't been very successful since the NBC Today Show days, but we still know who she is.

This reminds me of the time when the New York Mets hired Willie Mays, Duke Snider and Gil Hodges, back in the early '60s. At one time these guys were the best at what they did. They couldn't cut the mustard with the Mets. They were hired to sell tickets, not to win ball games!

Back to Couric - is she hired for her journalistic ability or because of her cosmetic value for Yahoo? If you are serious about "news", Yahoo, give it to us! More stories written and produced by the Yahoo news team - world, national, local, serious, fluff, human interest, etc.

The irony about the Katie Couric story is that I read about it on Yahoo as they carried the AP story!
