Jeter Becomes "Mr. 3,000"

Derek Jeter homers off David Price
for his 3,000th hit, 7/9/11, Yankee Stadium
It was a perfect day for Derek Jeter. He became only the 28th Major League player (and the first Yankeee) to reach 3,000 hits. He went five for five and provided the games winning hit!

His 3,000th hit comes during his 17th season - only 5 others have done this. He is also the 4th youngest player to reach 3,000. The milestone hit came on a 3 - 2 count. Normally a fastball pitch, Tampa's David Price served up a 77 MPH curve ball. Jeter sent it 420 feet - into the left field bleachers where Christian Lopez caught the ball...and gave it back to Jeter!

On a personal note, I've been watching baseball for a lot of years. I've seen many of the great ones. I'll say this for Jeter, I can't remember any player doing so well and make it look so easy!
