You may not know him by name and you may not recognize his face, but you know his voice!Charlie O'Donnell was the off screen announcer for "Wheel Of Fortune" for most of two decades. He also played the same role on a dozen other game shows as well as various Academy Awards and Golden Globe-type shows. He was "big time" among the royalty of broadcast announcers.
O'Donnell died on Sunday at his home in Sherman Oaks, California. He was 78. Cause of death was heart failure. He died in his sleep.
He started his career in his home town of Philadelphia on "American Bandstand." O'Donnell later worked, again, with Dick Clark on "$100,000 Pyramid." He also worked as a radio DJ and as a news anchor.
Charlie was one of the best! He will be missed.
