Don Meredith died today, he was 72. Don was an NFL icon, playing for the Dallas Cowboys in the '60's and as the first color man on ABC's Monday Night Football. Extensive coverage will be available on the Internet and on TV.
My impression of Dandy Don was that everything he did, he did effortlessly...and he had a great time doing it! His down home Texan charm was an interesting contrast to Howard Cosell's big-city cynicism.
Don was a winner, whether he was an NFL quarterback, a broadcaster, an actor or even as a pitchman for Lipton Ice Tea!
Meridith died of a brain hemorrhage in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He had been traveling with his family.
Dandy Don was one of a kind - he will be missed!
R.I.P. Dandy Don
