His father fought in the Civil War. Since July of 2009, Walter Breuning of Montana was the world's oldest man. He died, yesterday afternoon, in a Great Falls, Montana hospital following a brief illness. He was 114.
Breuning came to Great Falls, Montana in 1918 with the expansion of the railroad and worked with the Great Northern Railway for more than 50 years.
His passing was noted on the floor of the U.S. Senate, today.
