Gov. Mitch Daniels |
This weekend, Mitch Daniels announced that he will not be running for the Republican nomination for President of the United States.
His delay in saying yes or no had been tied to family concerns. In 1987 he turned down the appointment to fill Dan Quayle's U.S. Senate seat.
Daniels and his wife Cheri have four daughters. For four years, the Daniels were divorced. Cheri remarried, then divorced her second husband and returned to Mitch.
While in college, at Princeton, Daniels was arrested for drug possession. He has made no effort to conceal this fact.
The Daniels' desire for privacy on either matter is reason enough for Mitch to stay out of the race.
Just as well. I don't think he could have won the nomination nor the general election. His act sells in Indiana. This may come as a shock to many Hoosiers, but there's a lot of USA outside of Indiana.
