Jessica Simpson Engaged

Jessica Simpson

Normally, I've been distancing myself from show business gossip. Mainly because it's so shallow. With this in mind, I notice that Jessica Simpson is engaged to an ex-NFL player named Eric Johnson. I find a few things interesting, here. Jessica had a relationship with Dallas quarterback, Tony Romo. Choosing to repeat the pattern shows that she likes something about athletes, specifically football players. I also find it interesting that she has achieved so much success based on such a limited amount of talent.

So, Eric Johnson, who is this guy? He's 31 and is a Yale graduate (an educated guy for Jessica - go figure?) who was a 7th round draft pick by the San Francisco 49ers. He played in the NFL for 5 seasons, four for SF and one for New Orleans. As a tight end in his career he scored 9 touchdowns, had 240 receptions for 2,178 yards. He retired at the end of the 2007 season.

The two started dating last spring, as Johnson was separated from his wife. His divorce was recently finalized and Jessica's ex, Nick Lachey, recently announced his engagement. Speculation is that Jessica is acting on the rebound.

My personal speculation is that Simpson and Johnson will not get married in the near future. Ironclad pre-nups take a while to be written.

Isn't love beautiful?

Jessica...Is She...?

You may have seen a few pictures floating around of a somewhat larger Jessica Simpson. Well, now some of the narrow minded among us are speculating that she may have a "bun in the oven?" I say, no. It is my opinion that she's simply enjoying herself and possibly looking to be a new spokesperson for Jenny Craig! Others say that she's expecting. Now, this is a possibility. Jessica is a woman and it's usually women who get pregnant. She's not married, but she has been seen quite a bit with Tony Romo. Let's see, remembering that little discussion about the birds and the bees...hey, she could be....

Wait a minute...it just hit me! Never mind, I don't care!

The World Is Searching For...Britney!

That's right! For some reason we can't get enough of Britney Spears! This makes 6 of the past 7 years that "Unfittney" has graced the top spot on Yahoo's annual list of the top searches. In 2006 Paris Hilton was #1, she's number 3 on '07. Number 2 at Yahoo was WWE. Number 4 is Naruto - a Japanese thing. #5 is Beyonce - she could do better with some legal convictions, maybe a half dozen rehab attempts would help. Let's face it, talent ain't enough to edge past Britney. #6 is Lindsay Lohan. Missing from this year's top ten are Jessica Simpson and Pamela Anderson.
I was watching Game Show Network during the wee hours of Sunday night/early Monday morning and I saw a rare episode of the first Goodson-Toddman Quiz Shows. It was called "Winner Take All." This particular episode aired on CBS TV in 1951. It was hosted by a young Barry Gray. This is the same Barry Gray who is idolized by Larry King as the "father of talk radio." Well, anyway, the show was awful. Gray tried to be funny and was so flat that it was hard to watch. The prizes were household appliances made by companies that I've never heard of. That's odd since I'm old enough to remember when they invented rope. But I digress. 56 years after "Winner Take All" aired we see how much network TV has changed. Aside from the technical advances, we see that people acted, or carried themselves, differently back in the Black & White days of the early '50s. What I'm saying is that I'd rather watch bad '50s TV than bad '00s TV.
I can't help wondering what Yahoo's top 10 searches would have been for 1951?
