Knut, the lovable polar bear at the Berlin Zoo has died. Death came suddenly from unknown causes. No foul play is suspected.
During his brief 4 year career, Knute was featured on magazine covers and survived a complete media blitz - he was a superstar! During his time with us, Knut, at his peak, doubled attendance at the zoo.
Most recently, Knute was living with 3 female polar bears. Reports indicate that the relationship did not go well. Life is not always fair... even for celebrity polar bears!
In the wild, polar bears live 15 - 20 years... longer in captivity. An autopsy has been scheduled. Knut will be stuffed and displayed in a museum.
