Casey Anthony

Casey Anthony

The Casey Anthony murder trial is going on and the nation waits on the edge of its seat for a verdict. Most of us have seen some coverage of the young mother accused of killing her young daughter.

We are told that America is captivated by this story. Are we? Why is this a major story? There are murders committed in all 50 states. There's no shortage of murder. So why the big deal here?

I'll answer my own question. News is a visual thing. It's visual in newspapers and magazines. It's visual on television and on the Internet. News is also a business. If the public cares about a story, it will be covered in greater depth, and the news people will profit from the story.

So, the answer to why the Casey Anthony case is plastered all over creation? She's pretty and she likes to party. That's it! That's the wild card that puts this murder case at the "top of the deck" of all other murder cases. It sounds shallow, but we all seem to want to know about the fate of the hot chick who could get the hot seat.  If I mentioned that this blog has thousands of hot Casey Anthony pictures, the blog would be swamped with hits. (I'll keep you posted.)

This story sells...and we're buying it.

Friday Foto - Natalie Gauvreau

Usually when you click the Friday Foto image, you get to see a huge version of the posted picture. Well, this week, we have a special lady - Natalie Gauvreau. She's a young fitness model from Toronto, Canada. I was not able to find a "large" picture of her, so, I picked one that I like. I think it's a classic pose...are you still reading this? You can still click the image for a larger version... and of course, have a great weekend.

Weiner Update

This story has taken on a "life of its own!"
First, there are reports circulating that Weiner's wife, Huma, is pregnant.

If that's not enough, the Congressman received a job offer, today, from SugarSugar.com. The web site is a dating service where wealthy/successful guys hook up with beautiful women. Weiner was offered a quick $50,000 to become a spokesperson for the site.

Logical and tasteless

Thank You, Anthony Weiner!

Anthony Weiner, High School

This is a tough time for Congressman Anthony Weiner. I would like to offer Mr. Weiner a sincere thank you for boosting the hits to this blog! I wrote two posts and they proved to be very popular, especially the one about the Seattle co-ed.

I can't criticize the congressman for his recent indiscretions. I will say that real men don't behave like that, but it's OK to not be a real man.

Should he resign? If you think that we deserve the best, most mature, most serious with the best judgement to represent us in the House Of Representatives, the answer is YES!

Wednesday Foto - Meagan Good

Meagan Good

This weeks Wednesday Foto is Meagan Good.  Meagan is a 29 year old American film and television actress and occasional film producer. Beginning her career at the age of four, Good has appeared in numerous commercials, television shows, feature films, and music videos. I must confess that I haven't seen any of her work, except for this nifty little picture on the left.

Monday Foto - Angie Varona

Welcome to Monday! Today's Monday Foto features a newcomer with an established web presence.

Her name is Angie Varona, a 21 year old from Miami.

If she's not a model, she could be. I included three pictures because I couldn't find a single picture to do her justice.

In any case, click any image to get a better view, and have a great week!

That Weiner Picture

I think that this is interesting. There's a big story going around about the possibility that Congressman Anthony Weiner may have sent a certain picture to a certain woman.

With all of the speculation, is there something missing? Of course there is! The picture! Show us the picture!

Here, on General Tom's Blog, we do not show nudity. Well, not intentionally. We do our best to conceal nudity...usually with clothing.

With that in mind, as a reward for reading this far into the post, I present to you the actual photo which is at the center of the issue at hand........

Supposed picture of Rep, Weiner.

That's it kids!  This could be embarrassing on several levels.

Doctor Death Dies

This sounds ironic to me, but Dr. Jack Kevorkian, who admitted to helping more than 100 terminally ill people end their lives early, has died. He was 83 and he, himself, was terminally ill. He had been hospitalized for about two weeks with kidney and heart problems.

Kevorkian had many legal battles during his career. He served 8 years in prison.

He will be remembered for stirring the debate for assisted suicide among people suffering terminal illnesses. Dr, Jack made us ask that if something is illegal, is it necessarily wrong under all circumstances?

Close friends say that the dying Kevorkian did not end his life early

Andy Robustelli Dies at 85

If you were an NFL fan of the '50s or '60s, the name Andy Robustelli would be most familiar.

The 6-foot-1, 230-pound defensive end played for the Los Angeles Rams from 1951-55 and the New York Giants from 1956-64, but his arrival in New York ushered in one of the greatest eras in Giants’ football.

New York won the 1956 NFL championship in Robustelli’s first season. They won five more conference championships during his tenure, in 1958, 1959, 1961, 1962 and 1963. Robustelli played on a winning team in 13 of his 14 pro seasons and played in eight NFL championship games.

“Andy was a great leader. When he came to us from the Rams, it turned everything around defensively,” fellow Hall of Famer Frank Gifford said. “He fit perfectly into Tom Landry’s defense. Tom Landry was such a leader in putting defense into pro football and Andy was one of the key components of that.”

Robustelli died in a hospital in his hometown of Stamford Connecticut following complications from bladder surgery.

Robustelli was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971. He is also a member of the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame.

Naomi Campbell Mad At Ad

I am guessing that Naomi Campbell is not a happy person. We've heard about her infamous public tantrums. Now, she's upset over the adjoining ad, saying that it's racist.

You see, Naomi is a black woman and the chocolate being advertised, is...well, chocolate.

Assuming that Campbell is the only diva in the world named Naomi, naw, forget it. This is too stupid, even for me!

Weinergate's Gennette Cordova

Gennette Cordova

Gennette Cordova is a 21 year old Nursing student from Seattle, Washington. She's found herself in an uncomfortable situation. She's been a Twitter follower of Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY). Somehow, she was sent a lewd picture, on twitter, of...well, let's just say something that you don't show a lady on the first date. The tweet was made to look as if it came from Weiner, and was visible to all of Weiner's followers.

No big deal, to me, except, maybe, if this really happened, can we try a little harder to get responsible adults to represent us in Congress?

As of this writing, Weiner has not denied the tweet.

Avril Lavigne Drops F-Bomb On Tampa Bay

Avril Lavigne
Avril Lavigne did a live show, this weekend at the Tampa Bay Ray's Tropicana Ball Park. When she started, her mic didn't work. She sang the song, anyway and when she found a live mike, she dropped the F-Bomb to an audience of baseball fans in a supposed "family setting."

The Rays issued a formal apology for the profanity.

My question is why would the Rays hire Avril Lavigne, in the first place? I have a video clip of the offensive language followed by proof of the impressive lack of talent radiating from Miss Lavigne. The F-bombs fall at the very beginning...

This woman is proof that a strong record company can turn any reasonably attractive, whiny voiced female into a superstar!  In the spirit of Paris Hilton, Avril is famous for being famous.

Sad and confusing why people spend good money on this crap.

Wacky 500 At Indianapolis

icon

Photo by General Tom
I just came back from the Indianapolis 500. This year I sat in the North Vista. This is something new
for me. We had great views of turns 3 and 4, sitting under the sun with the "little people."

You may have heard that the race had an odd ending with rookie JR Hildebrand, leading the race on the final lap and smashing into the wall of the final turn. The checkered flag was literally "In sight."

Former winner Dan Wheldon won the race. He had not led at any point, except for the final few hundred yards.

At one point, Danica Patrick led the race. The fans went wild! She was easy to spot in her bright green Go Daddy car. She is a favorite at Indy! A late pit stop took her out of contention. Too bad. She always seems to be within striking distance.

A few other things made this one of the wackier 500's in recent memory. When we entered the main gate, 90 minutes before the race, there were so many fans entering, so quickly, that the ticket takers simply asked us to "hold up" our tickets!

The racetrack is surrounded, for the most part, by residential neighborhoods. For $20, you can park in someone's front yard. This practice has been going on for years. While taking a "short cut" back to my car, I asked a State Trooper for directions. He said he couldn't help me...he was from Ft. Wayne and unfamiliar with the area. He was sitting in his car and wanted to start a conversation.  I couldn't stay and talk, there was a traffic jam waiting for me!

The souvenir stands seemed to be busier than I remember from previous years. I noticed this while standing in the beer line.

This was the 100th anniversary of the first running of the Indianapolis 500. The track's surrounding was, as usual in great shape, the workers were friendly and efficient. But, the traffic! Good God, we've been doing this for 100 years...can we figure out how to route traffic?

New York's New Taxi

New Taxi in New York

The selection process began as early as 2007. The quest was to find a new taxi that would be able to do the job in New York City for the next ten years.

The winner is the Nissan NV200. It's not available for public consumption, but is expected to be dodging potholes in the Big Apple as early as late 2013.

The following is from a Nissan Press Release:

Planned innovations, which respond to direct input from drivers, owners and passengers, include:
•2.0L 4-cylinder powertrain, engineered to enhance the emission performance and fuel efficiency of the taxi fleet;
•Ample room for four passengers and their luggage, substantially improved over current taxi models;
•A low-annoyance horn with exterior lights that indicate when the vehicle is honking, helping reduce noise pollution;
•Sliding doors with entry step and grab handles, providing easy entry and exit;
•Transparent roof panel (with shade) that will provide unique views of the city;
•Independently controlled rear air conditioning with a grape phenol-coated air filter to improve cabin air quality;
•Attractive, breathable, antimicrobial, environmentally friendly and easy-to-clean seat fabric that simulates the look and feel of leather;
•Overhead reading lights for passengers and floor lighting to help locate belongings;
•A mobile charging station for passengers that includes a 12V electrical outlet and two USB plugs;
•A six-way adjustable driver’s seat that features both recline and lumbar adjustments, even with a partition installed;
•Standard driver’s navigation and telematics systems.
Nissan also focused on passenger safety when designing the NV200 taxi. Key safety features include:
•Front and rear-seat occupant curtain airbags, as well as seat-mounted airbags for the front row;
•Standard traction control and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC);
•Sliding doors to reduce the risk of pedestrians, cyclists and other motorists getting struck by doors opening unexpectedly;
•Lights that alert other road users that taxi doors are opening.
With more than 13,000 taxis traveling a cumulative 500 million miles per year, durability was a key factor in the “Taxi of Tomorrow” selection process.

Projected cost is around $29,000. (Real cost is always higher.)

So here we have the largest city in the United States using 13,000 new taxi cabs built by a Japanese company with majority French ownership, manufactured in Mexico and paid for with American dollars.

ATM Repairman Swaps $200K w/Funny Money

Sammy Kioskli
This story caught my eye as an ATM repairman was arrested for allegedly taking $200,000 from bank of America ATMs in and around San Francisco, last summer. Authorities say that 64 year old Samuel Kioskli replaced the stolen 20 dollar bills with crude photocopies.

The bank made sure that none of their customers got stiffed with the bogus bills. Kioskli made his mistake when he skipped town, leaving his wife behind. He was automatically being sought as a missing person.

Cops caught up with him in Arizona. He'll be in court on Tuesday where we will see that stealing from a bank is frowned upon, unlike when the bank is stealing (with a bailout) from us.
