The Donald was to have been the driver of the Indianapolis 500 Pace Car this year. He backed out, yesterday, saying that he doesn't have the time. Driving the Pace Car involves participation in a bunch of pre race hoopla which can take up a good chunk of the month of May. Nobody has mentioned that the Pace Car is a convertible and that Trump's hairspray may not be up to the challenge. A lot of people around here are happy about this because they disagree with his politics. I'm sure that when he was ok'ed for the job, he wasn't running for President. Actually, he's still not officially running...and I doubt that he will.
Indy 500 purists say that Trump has no place in driving the Pace Car since he has nothing in common with the race or the area. We can be very parochial in Indiana.
A.J. Foyt will be driving the car. That's OK since he's been identified with the race for years....and, in Indiana, he could probably beat the Donald in a primary!
