The baseball card is one of the most famous among collectors. It's Honus Wagner's 1909 #T-208 card. Only 60 of these cards are known to be in existence. In 2008, this card, in near mint condition was sold at auction for $2.8 million.
This brings us to the good School Sisters of Notre Dame. One of the nuns inherited this card and decided to sell it. As you can see from the picture, the card is in rough shape. It's missing three borders, sports a giant crease in its upper righthand corner and has been laminated. It has been graded in poor condition, a usual turnoff for collectors willing to bid big bucks for baseball cards.
The Hall of Fame shortstop's card sold for $262,000. The proceeds are going to help support the sisters' interests in 30 countries around the world.
Nice story.
